About the Course

Logic is one of the oldest intellectual disciplines in human history. It dates back to the times of Aristotle; it has been studied through the centuries; and it is still a subject of active investigation today.
This course is a basic introduction to Logic. It shows how to formalize information in form of logical sentences. It shows how to reason systematically with this information to produce all logical conclusions and only logical conclusions. And it examines logic technology and its applications - in mathematics, science, engineering, business, law, and so forth.
The course differs from other introductory courses in Logic in two important ways. First of all, it teaches a novel theory of logic that improves accessibility while preserving rigor. Second, the material is laced with interactive demonstrations and exercises that suggest the many practical applications of the field.

About the Instructor(s)

Michael Genesereth is an associate professor in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University. He received his Sc.B. in Physics from M.I.T. and his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University. He is best known for his research on Computational Logic and its many applications. He has been teaching Logic to Stanford students and others for more than 20 years. He is the current director of the Logic Group at Stanford and founder and research director of CodeX (The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics).

• Will I get a statement of accomplishment after completing this class?Yes. Students who successfully complete the class will receive a statement of accomplishment signed by the instructor.
• What is the format of the class?The class consists of videos, notes, and a few background readings. The videos include interactive demonstrations and exercises. There are also standalone quizzes that are not part of video lectures. Workload: one to two hours of video content per week.
• What should I know to take this class?The course has no prerequisites beyond high school mathematics. You should be comfortable with symbolic manipulation techniques, as used, for example, in solving simple algebra problems. And you need to understand sets, functions, and relations. However, that's all. If you have this background, you should be fine.
• Do I need to buy any textbooks?None is required, as the course is self-contained.

“UNDER THE ROCK”, VER LO QUE SUENA

En el marco del Cali Blues Festival 2012, el Centro Cultural Colombo Americano presenta la exposición fotográfica “Under The Rock” del publicista, fotógrafo y músico Leonardo Gómez en la Galería Humberto Hernández del Colombo Americano. Es así, que bajo el pretexto del permanente diálogo cultural del que somos testigos, promovemos y abrimos un espacio de reflexión estética para la música Rock en el tránsito del CALI BLUES FESTIVAL 2012. Un evento que consigna la música desde sus diferencias y expresiones particulares; un recordatorio musical que convoca, espacio donde los músicos dirigen y el público goza.

Leonardo Gómez, publicista, músico y fotógrafo. Su primer instrumento musical fue una guitarra. Aprendió a tocarla desde los siete años, contagiado por la fiebre  del Blues, Folclor y Jazz de su padre. A sus 16 años, llega el rock a su vida  de manera desafiante, delirante, sincera y corajuda. Recuerda con certeza que gracias a su fascinación por los delays, sintetizadores y los computadores, decide estudiar ingeniería electrónica pero con el tiempo abandona la carrera  y prefiere  la publicidad. Por eso, una cámara fotográfica, tonos vibrantes, over drive de formas y destellos eléctricos son su amplificador para contar esas historias que no tienen sponsor.

“Under the Rock” es un culto, una ilusión, el insight; un universo paralelo cuyo lenguaje pocos hablan pero todos entienden; homenaje a infinitas  y apasionadas horas de ensayo en un garaje, donde sin publicistas, discos de platino, djs, ni grammys, la fama es el estado de ánimo del rock. “Under the Rock”, un homenaje invisible en la música, el ejercicio íntimo y personal de un individuo o grupo que encuentra satisfacción desmedida; su rendición a las ondas sonoras que genera su instrumento y la complicidad de la banda. Es la música que desvanece la ausencia del privilegio y materializa por instantes una fama que toca la divinidad. Es un viaje personal y espiritual que en la mayoría de las veces solo la música logra entender. Somos espectadores, solo eso.
